How Long Does a Kitchen Remodel Actually Take?

A realistic timeline so you can plan around it. No surprises.

1

Planning and Material Selection (2 to 4 Weeks Before Demo)

This is the phase most people underestimate. You need to pick cabinets (or decide on painting), choose countertop material and color, select tile for the backsplash, and decide on fixtures. Countertops need to be templated after cabinets are installed, and fabrication takes 7 to 10 business days. If you wait to pick materials until after demo, your project stalls. We help you make these decisions during the estimate phase so everything is ordered before we start swinging hammers.

Week 1: Demo and Rough Work

Day 1 to 2 is demo. We remove old cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and flooring if needed. Day 3 to 5 is rough work. Any plumbing changes, electrical updates, or wall modifications happen now. If we are moving the sink, adding outlets, or relocating gas lines, this is when it happens. This phase is the messiest part of the project. We set up dust barriers and clean up daily.

Weeks 2 to 4: Cabinets, Countertops, and Finishing

Week 2: Cabinets go in. This takes 2 to 3 days for installation and leveling. Once cabinets are set, we template for countertops. Week 3: While waiting for countertop fabrication, we install the backsplash tile and do any painting. Countertops typically arrive 7 to 10 days after templating. Week 4: Countertops are installed, sink and plumbing are connected, appliances are fitted, and we do the final walkthrough. A cabinet painting project instead of replacement saves a full week off this timeline.

Frequently asked questions

Can a kitchen remodel be done in 2 weeks?

A cosmetic refresh can be done in 2 weeks or less. If you are painting cabinets, adding a backsplash, and swapping fixtures, that is a 7 to 10 day project. But a full kitchen remodel with new cabinets or refacing, new countertops, and layout changes takes 3 to 6 weeks. The bottleneck is usually countertop fabrication which takes 7 to 10 business days after templating. There is no way to rush that step without sacrificing quality.

What causes delays in kitchen remodels?

The top three delay causes are late material decisions, unexpected plumbing issues, and countertop fabrication timing. If you have not picked your countertop before demo starts, you lose 2 or more weeks waiting. Older Miami homes sometimes have plumbing surprises behind the walls that add a few days. And countertop fabrication cannot be rushed. We prevent most delays by doing a thorough planning phase before any work begins.

How long does cabinet painting take compared to replacement?

Cabinet painting takes 5 to 7 days. New cabinet installation takes 2 to 4 weeks (including ordering time). If your cabinets are structurally sound and the layout works, painting saves you 1 to 3 weeks off your overall kitchen remodel timeline. Plus you skip the countertop templating delay because your existing countertops stay in place unless you are replacing those too.

Can I live in my house during the remodel?

Yes. Most of our kitchen remodel clients stay in their homes. Set up a temporary kitchen station in another room with a microwave, toaster oven, and cooler. During demo week, it is dusty and loud. After that, the noise level drops. We clean up at the end of every workday and keep the disruption as contained as possible. If you work from home, the loudest days are demo and tile cutting.

Do you give a timeline before starting?

Yes. Before we start any work, you get a written timeline with key milestones: demo date, cabinet installation date, countertop template date, expected countertop delivery, and final walkthrough date. We update you daily on progress. If anything changes, you hear about it the same day. No surprises. That is how we operate on every project.
