In Miami, the same fixture has three names depending on where your family is from. Cuban households say bañadera. Mexican and Central American households say tina. South American households usually say bañera.

We mention this because most of the Spanish-language pages about this project were written for Spain, where the standard phrasing is bañera and plato de ducha, and where the prices are quoted in euros for a completely different construction market. Those pages are not describing your bathroom, your concrete slab, or your Miami-Dade permit.

The Short Version in English

A tiled tub-to-shower conversion in Miami-Dade generally costs $4,500 to $12,000 and takes five to eight working days, with custom glass often arriving one to two weeks after that.

The price includes demolition and haul-away, plumbing adjustment, cement backer board, a waterproofing membrane, a sloped shower pan, tile and tile labor, grout, fixtures, glass, a permit, and a final water test. If any of those are missing from a quote, the quote is describing something else.

The project needs a permit in Miami-Dade because it changes plumbing. A tub drain is 1.5 inches and a shower drain is 2 inches, so even a conversion that keeps the exact same footprint is a plumbing modification. Florida's HB 803 exemption does not cover it.
