What has been happening in Palm Bay

  • Florida Today reported that southeast Palm Bay got 20 inches of rain in 24 hours, from Sunday into Monday, November 2. Some gauges read 14 to 15 inches.
  • FOX Weather called the storm a 1,000-year flood event, reporting 18 to 20 inches of rain in 12 hours just south of Palm Bay.
  • Florida Today reported that Jupiter Boulevard and Garvey Road flooded heavily, police blocked parts of Heritage Parkway, and the city issued a shelter-in-place order around noon on November 2.
  • A water main broke on Port Malabar Boulevard NE, and water was cut to nearby neighborhoods, with a boil notice to follow once it was restored. The fire department headquarters flooded and crews moved to City Hall, Florida Today reported.

What we see in Palm Bay homes

  • Rain flooding at the doors. Water that comes over a threshold soaks baseboards, the bottom of the drywall and the flooring, and it keeps spreading while the house stays closed up.
  • Carpet and laminate in newer subdivision homes. Both soak up floodwater fast, and the carpet pad and laminate seams hold the water.
  • Cabinet bases and toe kicks. Particleboard swells when it sits in water, and the damage hides behind the kick plate.
  • Houses that stayed closed up in the heat. The longer wet materials sit, the more of them have to come out, so early drying saves more of the house.

We cover all of Palm Bay, including Port Malabar.

Common questions

Does insurance cover rain water damage after the November 2026 Palm Bay flood?

It depends on how the water got in. Rain that comes through the roof, a window or a damaged door is generally a homeowners policy question. Water that rises from the ground and flows into the house, like street or yard flooding, is generally handled under a separate flood policy. CBS Miami reported that Executive Order 26-227 declared a state of emergency in Brevard and six other counties, but an emergency declaration does not decide your coverage. Your policy does. Read your declarations page and report the loss quickly. Florida's claim notice law gives you one year at most from the date of loss for a new claim. Our homeowners claim guide and flood claim guide walk through the steps. We do not file claims. We give your adjuster photos, moisture readings and a written scope.

How long will it take to dry my Palm Bay house after this much water?

There is no honest fixed number, because it depends on how much water got in, how long it sat and what it soaked. A room with a quick spill is a different job than a whole slab home that took water at every door. Drying usually takes days, not hours. We do not stop on a calendar date. We take moisture readings at every visit and stop when the walls, floors and framing read dry. After a flood, we also pull what cannot be dried, like wet carpet pad and the bottom of soaked drywall, because leaving it in slows the whole job. Keep the AC running if the power is safe, keep interior doors open and stay out of wet rooms. The EPA says wet materials should be dried within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth, so call early. We answer 24/7, and we tell you what to expect for your house.
